Very interesting choice
These are two marvellous watches and have a special place in each brands history and catalogue (by the way you're talking about the first Dato or the Up/Down one?)
But, I would say they are very far from being "similar" (except they are chronographs).
I'll invite you to use our Search function and you'll see many posts of owners (more from Dato I think) and it can give you an idea of how they feel about their watches (the 5170 is quite recent though).
But to try to give an opinion, I really think that when trying both you will find an answer to your question.
The sizes are very different, hence the comfort and weight.
Do you want more or less complications?
How will you wear it?
Those two watches are wonderfully finished, one might seem a little more elegant and dressy (but both can wonderfully match with a suit), the other one has maybe a little more presence etc...
I know which I would choose because I have my own criteria but I won't rank them.
