All I know is it is a lovely watch! I know I'm biased because I got my 5170G white dial last week. The black dial version is very nice too.
But the choice between this watch and the Lange Datograph is quite a nice decision to make. I have a Lange. Not a Dato though so unfortunately no Dato comparison pics. But I did try it on as well as the Dato Up/Down.
The original Dato is a great watch. The overall finish is superb. The movement finish might be even nicer than on the 5170. But when I tried it on the weight of the original Dato was perfect. Only the thickness of the watch was IMHO not as nice as the 5170. Because the Dato to me felt a little bit too thick and too small in diameter for that thickness to be honest. SO when I was choosing my Lange that was the reason I didn't pick the original Dato.
But I suggest you try it on your own wrist. You just have to get the right feeling with a watch in order to go to make it your own. I am looking forward to your decision.
The Dato Up/Down is a different watch IMHO. It is quite a size larger which makes the overall proportion better for me. Also I think it is a bit more sporty than the other watches.
It all depends on what you like. What your style is. Does it go with your lifestyle? Does it go with your wrist size? etc. If you are not sure try to find them all and make some wrist shots and think it over for a while.

I would lean towards the Patek because of the same reasons.
If now you were comparing the Dato first generation with the Patek, I would have said Lange! But to each his own, it is up to you to decide since you are the one to pay. ;) Best, Nicolas
