Unfortunately there are examples of failures under persistent winding on winders
First of all the spring will be forced to persistently slip inside the barrel; yes, it's designed to do so but not at an excessive rate. Second the train feeding it including the reverser if changing direction and third the rotor around its arbour. All unrequired mileage and not least on the highly sliding Mudge escapement itself beating away to no avail.

I think the difference here is measuring an engine in revolutions per minute versus beats per hour. A modern watch runs at 240 rpm or 8 bps. No car engine even idles at that. If a car could idle at 240 it could run for years and years. Not to mention at s...
