to sum up in few words in Patek you have :

 

CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN :  it is  in few words  what other brands call GUARANTEE,  with production delivery date and owners name ( not always)  and other details ( dealer ,etc .)

                                                   This certificate you CANNOT  request after sale  in Patek : only original owners can give it you or the dealer in the moment you buy the watch.

 

ESCTRACT FROM THE ARCHIVIES :   you can have it asking Patek Geneve  by fax and giving case and mov. numbers   . ( not necessary to send the watch)

Both papers cannot give guarantee of autenticity to the watches but my suggest, especially for modern watch ( not vintage because is really difficult to have the Certificate) is always to ask the CERTIFICATE  in order to be sure is not stolen. Yes watch world is not 100% safe smile you know .  Normally when tehy stole you the watch on the road you dont have the Certificate togheter with you smile

CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN :  has value between collectors   ( IT'S LOGIC , it means safe seller ) I dont know if money value but for a  collector like me YES

Important only to the most serious collectors for the high end pieces. If someone wants the watch, they will buy it regardless.

not an answer but a question. That question would be "Why are there no papers ?" If the anwser is " My dog chewed it", ----RUN! & don't look back.

Lost, misplaced, significance not appreciated by original owner, etc. Also, some people don't want to send original papers to another person especially if their name is on the original certificate. I'm a collector and always try to get them but have never...

At my request they put down "anonymous" as the buyers name. Tried to leave it blank but they didn't want to do that (understandable). So, might I have to part from my PP, the next owner isn't stuck with my name...

that there has to be a recognition of diminished value if papers are missing. Regardless of actual importance the reality is you are eliminating a significant portion of the pool of potential buyers should you ever want to sell the piece down the road. A ...

if you want to have a paper ( and you dont have the certificate of origin) simply aks to patek the esctract for few CHF .... from my point of view has same value of certificate ..... but it's only my opinion , all my best Walter

Most vintage Pateks don't have Certif. of Origins, so it is acceptable not to have it (although if it does, all the better). On newer ones (say within the last 10 or so years), if the owner didn't think enough to keep the COO. how well did he maintain the...
