Seems to me..
that there has to be a recognition of diminished value if papers are missing. Regardless of actual importance the reality is you are eliminating a significant portion of the pool of potential buyers should you ever want to sell the piece down the road. A lot of people will simply pass on a Patek that doesn't have papers.

Hi, I was looking at a 5036. It does not come with the certificate of origin. How important is that with regards to value? Thx, Brian

Important only to the most serious collectors for the high end pieces. If someone wants the watch, they will buy it regardless.

... if someone can choose between the same two watches they will take the one with CO... So, or the watch in question is a top model then it will probably have it's CO anyway, or it's just a regular model and then, see above...
