This is honestly a big, big oversimplification...it reads like a new twist of the very standard "if they are rich or successful or otherwise enjoying life, let's try to find something wrong with them so to feel better ourselves"...
While you'll certainly find examples of people that meet your description, the counterexamples are probably even more, and much more diverse than you can imagine, at least among sophisticated people. Speaking for myself (alas, very far from being a rich guy), I can tell you that the last thing I need is prestige through watches. That might (and should) come from professional accomplishments, it would just look odd to me if it came from a hobby. In fact, as I love collecting Pateks, many of the people in my daily circles (both the 'mates' and the 'rivals' of your scientific explanation) barely know what a Patek is! ;-) Cheers.

IMO, I do think there is too much redundancy with the three Calatravas.
Maybe keep the 5110 and/or 5127 as you mentioned. I would swap out the others and diversify the collection with another brand. Maybe add a Lange, Rolex, etc. or an independent? You would have an awesome 3 watch collection with 1 Patek, 1 JLC, and a third ...
My take:
Keep the 5196J. Sell everything else. Invest the proceeds. Watch it grow. Relish the satisfaction that you could afford increasingly more expensive Pateks as the funds increase. Buy another one only when it becomes unbearable to wait any longer.

5110 and 5035 because both have useful complicated functions and 5110 is iconic !! By the selling the others, you will have enough funds to buy another Patek with complication.
Unpopular opinion: people DO seek respect through watches
I see a lot of people replying about how you don't earn respect through material goods. Excuse me? I'm sorry to hurt everyone's feelings, but that is exactly what we all do when we collect expensive things like watches. You think you're doing it for yours...

You are so right dear. I second your views in toto. I buy my watches that please me and I find them to reflect my personality better when I wear them. I've Rado, few Longines, Omega, JLC, Rolex and Patek Philippe and I really enjoy wearing them equally.
And I don’t seek respect and/or prestige from the society. In fact none outside these forums know about my collection of watches and pens. I enjoy my collection that each piece has a story behind in my life.
