I like your vertical/horizontal thing Joe 
I think I prefer the vertical collecting even if, in the end, it is the sensation I have in owning a watch that preveils, no matter the fact I may have a close looking watch already.
I guess you would like to remain in a more reasonable price budget so I won't mention 3970 or 5970.
You don't like the Nautilus either (I didn't at the beginning but when I tried it on... it was love at first "try"), which would have been my proposition.
So, if upper budget:
I saw the 3940 lately and it was thin, very elegant and beautiful. This QP model (or the 5140) was not my favorite Patek one. But seeing it in the metal was quite an interesting experience.
It was all Patek's elegance and noble look, with a very nice complication you don't seem to have already and it won't directly compete with your existing watches.
If lower budget:
If you like "Clous de Paris" bezel decoration, I like the 5115 (enamel dial 35mm, cla 215) / 5117 (no enamel, auto) or the manual 5116 (5119 with enamel dial).
I forgot the Gondolo! I wasn't a square watch fan but the 5200 or 5124 are beautiful, original and I would very well see one on my wrist everyday.
I'm curious to see what you'll be choosing in the end.

May a suggest a nautilus , an ellipse in yellow gold. The nautilus , the 38mm model. The one previous to the new model 5711a. As you have a chrono & world time , perhaps you need playboy watches of patek both a nautilus and ellipse. Cheers! Geross

Get the one with eccentric seconds on the right side. White gold railroad black dial. I forgot the ref but saw it in bangkok , really nice. My opinion my suggestion. Cheers!

The vertical vrs horizontal was a Bill term. I like it too. To be a vertical guy, I think you need to have a very focussed passion. I have that in some specific areas, but in Rolex rather than Patek. The 3940 is a watch I love. I saw MikeH version in Pari...

.....Ellipse is indeed small....but i think it works for me. More Calatravas....yes, I have definitely considered that too. When I see a WG or Steel 570, it is very tempting for sure. The way I see it, though, is that I have 4 Calatravas of various metals...

Good advice about vintage Ellipse
Indeed as a vintage model a tad too small. The current Ellipse is among the few modern "magnifications" in the new collection that has worked well. Best Moritz
5100 is unwearable for me......
