Patek Philippe

Sounds normal, or fishy!

standard routine service. I presume this is just the oiling of the parts and the checking/repair of minor problems i.e, hairspring tauntness/accuracy.

From what i hear you say, your brother's watch (now yours), is NOT a standard service. This is because the watch possibly could have more underlying/serious problems, i.e, broken/chipped gears, worn out parts.

However, i believe patek would had informed you beforehand of the services required, or at the very least, your AD. I believe there could be some communication breakdown between you guys?

For all you know, your AD could have asked them to rebuff/polish the case when it was not necessry. Look at the Patek invoice, service report. Make sure your AD did not actually 'jack up' the service price so he could poket some too!

Remember, the prices quotes are in Swiss Francs too! Furthermore, you hadn't said how much more expensive the service costs were! Was it like a USD5000 quote, or just a USD1300 quote, which would be roughly in line of the price!
