And, to be sure, some may need to have this post translated in local language ;) Thanks for this unusual 5170 stripping, as always I don't see the point when someone just posts a picture of an ugly box (even with a Patek inside). This is clearly a watch o... 

Yellow gold is not my #1 choice but this watch is so incredibly classic that YG fits well to that. However, if the coming WG looks much better, I can always trade to that or to do like a top executive of Patek advised me in a cocktail party: "Collect 5170... 

... what if they change the scale into a Tachy. or Telemeter one ? I heard the Puslometer scale could be reserved to YG (maybe internet rumors...). As you said, this YG color is also something that fits very well to the 5170's spirit.

Yes, this sealed / double sealed Patek issue is something I really do not understand. I am 100% sure there are better ways to invest money than to sealed watches. At the same time a great watch is much nicer on the wrist than a bunch of blue chip stock. B...

I had just two mugs just before Xmas many years ago. Next day I was supposed to drive to Zell am See but I had to stay the whole day in the bottom of my bed waiting for death. This kind of experience helped me to shift to non-alcoholic beer. Best, Kari

Indeed, the color of the case in my eyes is a little bit different than yellow gold is normally. I will pick up from the bank vault my 5120/1 and a Golden Ellipse to see if there's a difference. Best, Kari

Hi Kari, I generally dislike yellow gold, but liked this one a lot! I didn't find it as bright yellow as yellow gold generally is. Maybe it's due to the detailing of the case too? Best Dje

I suspect they retire this reference this year at Basel and and bring out a new model in white gold with a different type scale. I own and love the 5170J but it may take several years before the larger PP community warms up to this reference based upon sa...

One should write a poem about operating the chronograph. The feeling is incredible and pressing the resetting button of the chronograph hand feels like putting the finger to warm... I'm not a poet! Best, Kari

And clearly you do not either smoke nor booze. We often hear complaints about rising watch prices. But what about the rising prices of cigarettes and booze. When I started smoking 41 years ago, a pack of my favorite brand of cigarettes costed about 4% of ...

If it is great and very different compared with 5170J, I have to start to save money. If it is just great but very similar to 5170J, I have two alternatives: - to be happy with my 5170J - sell my watch, add a bit cash and get 5170G I love most of my watch...

I also ordered some made-to-measure straps from Patek in order to wear the watch in the most comfortable way. After one year of wearing, the watch will have the needed scratches and the strap will be nice and soft. Best, Kari

I did not try to hide the message. And when my 5131G arrives, it will fly out from the packing directly to my wrist. Then it will stay on the wrist for quite some time. My 5170J is now having that destiny. I hope that as many collectors as possible would ...

That I also have been interested lately and maybe my first chrono watch to complement my AC, Travel Time and Nautilus 5711. Thanks for sharing and I hope Patek will come up with a G variant this year as rumored.

If you have been following Patek Forum you perhaps noticed that by accident Patek had the instructions for their 5170G in their home pages. However, it was quickly noticed by them and removed from internet. We will see the new 5170G soon. I hope it's stun...

It is funny how much we pay attention to the color of the case while from inside watches are just the same. I am not crazy about yellow gold nowadays. However, there are a couple of Pateks I can easily consider in YG. Those are the classic ones like 5196,... 

The 5170J is an instant classic, purely, imo by the design of the dial, which it has "Borrowed" from its grandparents. :) I have to admitted to humming the "Striptease" music while I watched the unpacking of your new piece LOL I am sure that you were thin...

A very nice classical chronograph. The watch doesn't look very attractive in many pictures I have seen, but it becomes so attractive when you have it on your wrist. I am not a colored gold fan, but yellow gold works perfect with this specific reference. H...

Yes, the feeling of winding is perfect. Even I like the winding feeling of 5070 and Datograph, this 5170 over-performs both. I tried it in the Paris Salons, I totally understand your feeling :-) Will be in Basel next month and can't wait to see the new wh...
