Hello, all. I am new to this Forum, though not to The Purist. I typically post on Lange's. I have been reading a lot, recently, about Patek's perpetual calendar chronographs. With the exception of the 3970, it seems that there are very few examples of any...

The 5970 is a grail for just about anyone and IMO the most beautiful modern watch. But I believe they made many. As a reference point, there are no less than 45 available for sale at the moment on a well known website. By way of comparison, there are 59 3... 

With so many available on one website alone, 2000 may be a good estimate. And it sounds like quite a few people may have bought to sell. That's interesting. Is that typical for other/many modern, highly complicated Pateks?

I am just curious as to how many PCCs Patek has made over the years. It seems to be a most highly sought-after type of watch. And I do remember when I first started developing an interest in this kind of thing thinking that a PP Perpetual Chrono was proba...

In the past, I held VC in high esteem and - for a few years - actually owned one (a 1960ies "Calatrava" type in YG, very plain, nice). Since I am on the PP route, I cannot really appreciate VC anymore. Their watches seem too "generic" for me. This one loo... 

we should not forget the all-over production numbers have increased as well and not only for PP. PCC - competitors? Yes there are some, but it depends on what is important for you. Which values/criteria are important for you? Best, Oliver

I would definitely go for a Patek for a PCC. Yes the 5970P if that was an alternative. If not Patek, first on the list of PCC would be the Lange Datograph PCC followed by the Vacheron Malte PCC. Good luck!

you should consider the Lange Datograph Perpetual. Nearly the ultimate in-house chrono movement, and such a beautiful and important watch.

The watch Nico posted, the VC, is better looking than I would have thought, as my feeling about Vacherons is akin to some others- a bit bland, or pedestrian these days. Nothing in their present catalog really moves me (except maybe this PCC). Lange has, f... 

With Pateks. Have you seen some of the 5970/1s that pops up at auctions? You got ones with different color dials (not the usual white and black), ones with emeralds, or other color stones, so it's anybody's guess how many they made. Usually people asking ...

It is interesting in that usually the rarest model in the run is the P and in this case it was the J. Approximately 90-100 were made of the 5970J because of the gold price spike in 2008 and a noted Patek historian told me that made this reference the rare... 

If I end up with the 5970, it will be the yellow, without doubt. I think yellow is the forgotten metal and can look as striking as red or white. It is very interesting that you point out the scarcity of that one, as i have found, like you, that there are ... 

I recall my conversation with a high ranking Patek member during the Basel fair, recommending the J because it will be the rarest of all metals for the 5970 made.
