Patek Philippe

I mostly share your thoughts

I had an opportunity to discuss this issue with some PP people in London Minute Repeater Exhibition. I understood that the "best clients" are ultimately (at least in UK) getting their watches. That sounds fine but the system is clearly not working perfectly because some of these "best clients" clearly speculate with their watches.

However, I also understand the situation from the perspective of PP. I have understood that those clients who get a special watch like 5131 and put it directly to the market on speculative purposes, will be "black listed". I also understand that some of the dealers have been tricky at least in the past: they have applied a special piece for a special client but all that happens is that they sell the watch with a special price.

I am not happy that I got a clear "NO" from a Patek Salon when I applied for a 5131. I am still carrying some money on a regular basis to this Salon several times every year but my money is not clearly not enough for a 5131.

But if I think about the issue from the perspective of Patek: Is it possible to create a better system? Probably not, or I can not figure out a better one. It would be so easy to say that a system guaranteeing a watch for me is a perfect one is the best but that might not be the case. At the same time I do not want to see that Patek would stop making these special pieces in order to avoid speculation. So all I can do is to keep on trying and trust that Patek is doing what they can in order to eliminate these "Profiteers".

Somehow I trust and hope that one day my 5110P will be paired by a 5131P!
