It’s on the PP website now. Which do you prefer more black enamel dial or this ? ...

I was hoping they would come up with a 5370P with a blue enamel dial.
I really like the piece and seriously considering getting one. I was told blue enamel dial is harder to make than the black so that could reflect the slight price increase.
Not sure, white is certainly easier than black.
With regards to paint and ultra high finish cars then black is the most difficult colour to do due to it's lack of forgiveness for blemishes. I assume enamel is the same?
I was talking to Pete about a blue enamel dial on 5370P and it was he who told me blue enamel was difficult to make than black enamel which is also extremely difficult to make.
He also mentioned white was easier than black.
We talked about this watch several months ago and what Pete M said was the blue enamel dial was harder to make compared to the black and white dials.
He didn't say black dial was easy to make. I think traditionally Patek has produced less blue enamel dials compared to black and white dials. 5205R-010 and 5227G-010 have black lacquered dials and the blue dial of 5205G -013 is not a lacquered dial.
If i know Russell he will research this and come back with a definitive answer...but bless him...I have heard Peter M also state that the 5372P takes

Being lazy....it’s done so that you get very crisp and sharp lines on the lugs....ha ha...the cloisonné enamel dials are made by little Swiss elves in a hut on montlblanc and in tiny numbers...maybe 100 a year....yeah right ...pull my other foot ....love ...

Recently John Reardon estimated around 150 - 200 examples of 5131Js have been produced and if we go by those numbers they made less than 100 cloisonné enamel dials per year!

Which was 1J, 2G, 2 R and 1P....that’s roughly every 2 - 3 years....so ignoring the fact that PP had way more AD a few years back we can work on 400 AD that received a minimum of say 5-6 watches and that excludes the Salons where the whales hang out!!! Ju...

150 - 200 pieces of 5131J seem to be a low estimate if we go by the facts you have mentioned on that thread.

I think R was the shortest run...but they do overlap 5231J and G 5131R and P, 5531P and 5231J....and we see a lot of 5231J
I think J was introduced in 2008 and G was in 2009 and both were retired in 2014 so they were overlapped for 5 years.
I think R was introduced in 2014 and discontinued in 2018 and overlapped with P for 1 year. There was no overlapping for R for 3 years so there could be more Rs out there compared to Gs. I also think we see a lot of 5231J. I was told I could get one this ...
I prefer one with snow whether it is G, R or P.
I think R version is the most beautiful of all 5131s and Russell has one of best dials I have ever seen. Dial of your 5131/1P looks great too.

I guess initially he must have applied for J or G because R was produced only for 4 years. He definitely deserves it if it was a 8 year wait.

R was in production for only 3 years and with a different city ring each year. 001, 010 and 011.

And additionally each of the 3 years had a different city ring.
On 5131R -001 has London on the outer ring
5131R-010 has London on the inner ring and it also has Brisbane. 5131R has London on the inner ring and no Brisbane

001 has London on outer Ring and is spaced using a larger circumference of text (amongst other things) 010 has London on inner Ring, is spaced using a smaller outer circumference of text based on newly introduced 5230, Sydney and Brisbane both on the dial...

It will catch the light better and provide different colour variations of the dial.
Yes, I get it, but everybody does that these days-a blue dial that plays with the light.
I'm in for the black as the cool one and the blue as the crowd pleaser(I think🙃)

For me the attractive part of the bk enamel is the light absorbing endless deep feeling. I believe black one give me more of it
Blue 5370P for me. As blue enamel is much rarer than black.
Unless the blue dial is too light colour in metal, otherwise definitely blue for me.
Thanks a lot for breaking the news on this model! An interesting new enamel dial for a previous, very successful reference...hence quite a bold move in this sense.
Also interesting that the case is again platinum, while many would have probably expected a 5370R. Looking forward to seeing this one in the metal ;-) Cheers.
