expectations
we all have different expectations to mostly everything in life. In this day where most desires are expected to be fulfilled immediately I can certainly see how some find this years novelties less groundbreaking and disappointing. Personally I was slightly disappointed as well. But only because some of the items I personally had hoped for did not materialize. But that was perhaps to be expected. I was not disappointed at the quality and level of the releases however. Patek has been around for a long time, during this period many things have happened and stayed in fashion for various periods. The course taken by Patek has been and still is on the conservative side. I think it is unreasonable to expect groundbreaking new releases every year, this is not what I believe their objective is. Last year we got an updated Advanced Research Aquanaut. This year we got a world time minute repeater (yes a few lucky Americans got some last year). These are pretty amazing novelties. With regards to cal 315 and 240, yes they have been around for quite some time but still do a great job. Over the years they have been improved upon as well. Perhaps I would wish for a replacement to cal 215 one day very soon. And back to my hope for this year that was not materialized... a Calatrava in steel with no date and a newly developed manual movement....

Patek will not innovate because Patek does not have to innovate (except at the grand comp level and a few other unattainable (for me) releases). Their position in the market is IMO irrationally strong. This leads to a different set of business decisions t...

although Patek have not really innovated for years, if not decades. I guess a brand that has something to prove pushes the boundaries of innovation, but Patek’s following is so strong that if a new metal or dial colour is released, it’s big news! I hope P...

One can’t help but admire a brand that takes so much care and thought updating minor details to perfect their product. That strive for excellence and compulsive approach is lacking in Patek, even at times in their “Grand Complication” models. I for one lo...

I would just like to say that Patek do innovate but they do things slowly and thoroughly. The 5650 Advanced Research Nautilus was produced last year with an accuracy of +1 -2 seconds. Few mechanical watches can boast of such accuracy but it may take a whi...

Patek does not need to innovate or do anything for that matter. Besides the 240q they stick to the 215ps in spite of the fact it is way too small for all the watches it is in and is a 1960s technology with a short PR and no hacking.
