Between the AC and the PC

Why aren’t there any models between the annual calendar and the perpetual calendar? Ie a calendar that needs to be corrected every four years. It should be easier to make than the PC since you do not have to keep track of the years, only the months and when the 29th of feb comes up you adjust it manually. 


I mean you make PC and AC movements. Could there not be something in between? Or is there a technical explanation making this movement outlandishly complicated to produce?

Only need adjusting once every 4 years on the 1st of March of the leap year

Presumably it doesn't fit the business models.

As others have noted, Breitling makes a 4-year annual calendar model. From a business perspective, you have watch companies treating (and pricing) perpetual calendars as "major" complications while treating annual calendars as minor complications and char...

Effort to make the additional gears for the in-between may be similar to a perpetual calendar.

Possibly the reason is that to monitor the date so you change it once every 4 years requires a PC type movement.

February has 28 days 3 out of 4 years, if you don’t monitor what year it is then the 29th of February would always appear and need annual intervention. If you make the date wheel with 28 days that would work but one in 4 years there would be no 29th of Fe... 

Do we all have a full understanding of how these work?

I ask because logically it might be just as easy to make a watch that knows the length of 48 months to one that knows only the length of 12 minths and gets it wrong one in 4 years. How is the information contained in the watch? I am no watchmaker so could...
