Be careful when choosing your 5131G
If you go to an AD and want to buy a 5131G, remember to ask them to show you several examples. Why? Look at the picture I took yesterday...
If the picture would be good enough, you could see that the dial of the watch on the left was made after some bush fires in Australia. Unfortunately India was covered by the hands when the picture was taken. When making the dial of the watch on the left, there was a diarrhea epidemic. Thus, India was totally brown.
Between these two the watch on the right hand side was the obvious choice. But indeed, the differences in reality between two dials are huge. Next time I'm buying a 5131, I will ask to see minimum three watches to choose from...
Anyhow, it was easy to pick up mine.
In the watch I selected, the colors were correct and even India was greenish and it was nice and warm in Australia.
Some potential Russian buyers would love the watch on left because in reality Moscow area was clearly red.
So my advice is that choose your 5131G carefully. If you do that, you can get an enamel map showing the world just like you would like to see it.
I am a very happy man and look forward to the arrival of my 5131J.

Australia is cold and there are huge forestry fires around Moscow. That happens every year (since revolution of 1917). Furthermore, Finland is green. Anyhow, even yours is wonderful, the feeling of north European autumn in mine is unbeatable! Best, Kari

This is not a travel watch.
My 5134P is a real Travel Watch. In my books 5131G is a miniature piece of art. I could not afford a real painting of reasonable size and the walls of my home are narrow and low... So I am just happy looking at my left wrist. Best, Kari

The real charm of 5131 is in the fact that the dials are so incredibly different. Like somebody noticed, there is also the Climate Change version but that's in the disposal of the Gray Dealer. I guess every 5131 owner must love his version. At least I lov...

First of all the watch on the left was not new but either a sample or pre-owned, the strap is not new based upon the curve... secondly, no AD in the globe has two to choose from! I call Bullsh*t! ;)

I had a conversation with someone at Patek and they said they knew of no one Patek who has ever been given both a J & a G as well. There are people who have both, but they had to buy one on the secondary market...

I got my 5131G from an AD at list price. No discounts but fantastic service. Furthermore, I would never acquire a current production watch from the "gray market" and pay a premium for the same. I have bought some pre-owned pieces but those are discontinue...

I think the club is pretty small, but it's NOT impossible to get BOTH a G and J from an AD. I don't think there are any rules, but I'm sure continuing to buy Patek's will help you ascend up the waiting list for a 5131J. BTW, I actually like my J better th...
