Asian market
There were some examples of the 3919 produced for the Asian market as you describe. The only ones that I've ever seen have been in white gold and have applied, rather than painted, Roman markers on the dial. The display back makes this model more desirable for many as it allows visual appreciation of the 215 mechanism. I don't know about the production numbers other than it was very limited - I remember reading somewhere perhaps 500 examples but I have no way of knowing if this is correct.
As an aside, you describe the model as 3919J - the "J" refers to yellow gold case material, "G" would be the designation for white gold.

I believe this was made in a series of ~500 (but Patek never confirms this of course) for the Asian market in the late 1990s. Definitely more rare than the standard run of 3919J and 3919G, but 500 for any Patek is not ultra rare to be honest. Ref: 3919SG-...
