Patek Philippe

And the decision goes to!!!! :-)

I managed to drop by at the Patek Salon in London this morning and spent an hour trying on the 5136G, the 5940G (black dial as the silver dial has been discontinued) and the 5170G. It was a no brainer that the 5170G was too large for my wrist which meant that the 5170P would be too large too. At Basel, while trying on the 5170P, I was captivated by the blue dial and wanted the watch so much to fit my wrist. At the Salon today, the 5170G did not have the dial to 'distract' me so I could form a more objective judgement on the size of the watch (39.4mm) on my wrist.

The 5940G felt right on my wrist with its thin case and its weight made the watch very wearable so I am glad that I have the discontinued silver dial version. A keeper in my opinion (for me at least) even though many may feel that the case shape may not be to their liking.

The 5136G won me over as much as it did when I tried it on last Saturday. The perfect fit, a comfortable watch to wear as the bracelet wrapped around my wrist as if it belonged on it.

I have high regard for the 5170P but it is not or me due to its fit on my wrist. So as ridiculous as this may sound, I hope to own two Patek perpetual calendars by June this year (unless someone rescues me and buys the 5136G before then), both with the same movement and a very similar dial but with a different case shape, and one with a bracelet and the other with a more conventional leather strap.

Thank you all for your opinions, suggestions (including the jeans lovers!) and for reading this post.

Best wishes,

Sham
