It´s predecessor is the 5127 and I would like to compare them. The case is only 2mm bigger. The dial, the hands and the date look similar. But the indexes are different , there is only one at 12 and the crown protector s are gone. Anything else? Yes, look...  

More classical as before. A nice classical Patek, would be better even without date imho. Br, Dirk

I think the crown guard made the 5127 appear less "generic". I'm disappointed to see it go. I'm also disappointed with Patek's pricing... It's going up and up, without justification beyond marketing. $37,300 list price for a simple Calatrava? Are you kidd...

and I must say it's quite nice. Would I get it? No! In my opinion 5153 represents better the history of Patek. The hinged back has been offered with straight lugs and a bigger crown. The new 5227 is not an officers' watch - it's just a nice Calatrava with... 

... that it is not a officers watch, but comes with a same back. Possibly some "modern" approach to a classic theme, possibly "added value" or something similar. But as they can see: it can make an enthusiast wonder. 5153 is very sad in WG, I must say, ve... 

back... Ref. 5159 is too messy for me and 5059 too small. I have been considering 5059 P many times and even now I have a new one in the sight but can't make up my mind. Next Monday will show and you will hear something next week. Best, kari

This one is new and doesn´t replace anything from the collection. It comes with two di fferent dial options , but both of them in white gold. Some detaills/parts look familiar, but that is not a mistake from my point of view. For comparison I would like t...

I prefer the the 5100 for the following: The numerals and darts The equal balance between top and bottom of dial. I find too much oversize on the lower half of the new one The blue color of the dial. But that may not be fair until I see the new one in the... 

Did they change the three bridges on the lower left of the movement so they are now part of a single piece? In the 5100, you can see the perlage beneath the bridges; however, in the 5200, it looks like the bridges are joined by a uniform baseplate. John

like you can see here. I don´t know that much about the "old" movement of the Ref. 5100, but I see that PP managed to keep the same dimensions. This time we see an in s pir ed (by Ref. 5100 from 2000) but new developed movement with additional complicatio...

Hello, I heard from the UK Patek representative that they did this 'tromp l'oeil" effect to keep a visual continuity between the 2 movements, since people were so familiar with the the older model. I can't remember where it was, but there was another watc... 

Quite disappointed to see such faux bridge arrangement on such a movement. Understandably, the designer has to make space for the day-date quickset mechnism right underneath on the dial side, but still..... This is not something new. I have seen quite a f...

PP made a fuss about the gold chaton jewel settings on the 10-day 5100 when it was introduced, claiming more hand work and superior aesthetics (same for the 5101). Interesting that those are missing in the new 5200, yet we have a three bridge illusion to ...

First of all, many thanks for these pictures and explanations. To be honest, I got something strong in my mind looking at the 5200G blue dial. Did you try it on your wrist ? Your impressions ? Any wristshot with the blue dial ? Thanks a lot.

No crystal ball was needed to see that there will be another version of the 5170 some time soon and the white gold case was not a big surprise as well. People (me included) exptected to see the same dial and just a different metal. Breguet figures are not...  

Still, I much prefer the 5070, in any metal. I am still a bit disappointed but the fact that the two subdials are not totally at the middle of a 3 / 9 o' clock line. And much prefer the bezel, the case, lugs and movement of the 5070, without speaking of t...

Usually I prefer Roman numerals but here I'm really enthusiastic about the Breguet figures on the WG version. Excited to see it in the metal soon.

The breguet numerals go all the way around - instead of the mixture of stick markers And Roman numerals for the 5170j. So looks a bit more balanced to my eye as well. I too actually like the 5170g quite a bit - it's very beautiful...

.....as you say, such a watch needs to be seen in the flesh, but my initial response is that it has more to it that the first offering. The yellow metal always seemed to me to be a little clinical. The white gold has more feel to it...i think the dial sui... 

But the numerals spoil it for me. I could imagine a platinum version with a black dial and roman numerals - but that could be called daydreaming :-) Best regards Georg

The G case and dial is nice, but I am not convinced by the Breguet numerals. I wish it was like the J with baton indexes!

What I mean is that selling my 5170J on the 2nd hand market would mean that I have to put around 20k additional to get the G. It might be up to 30k... However, I am sure that we will hear quite soon that the J is discontinued... I am not sure at all that ...

The 5539 replaces the 5339 , even when they look very different. Both are 37mm an d have the cal. RTO 27 PS inside . Bo th are typical watches from Patek Philippe, at its best. Only the new one sings louder to me, much louder. Is there anything I would ch...  

Removing the tourby would reduce the price big time. Also maybe thinner. Still a great piece. Joe

comes back into vogue. I still have a difficult time accepting two tone and and feel it's somewhat like gold filled.

And even rose/steel ... a lovely mood is comming there from this watch! The 5980 was never a thought for me but this one: nice. Perfect would a 5711 AR as understated. 5170 G: brilliant. The 5200 G looks cheap, sorry. The other alterations are all verry, ... 

The combo black dial/RG as I saw it on some early pictures on the net is a true success. The nice combo really brings something more, something that was missing. Mark

and a hell of work (watches & real life) is waiting, but I wanted share something with you: This is the best use of "tons" of red gold I know :-) Don´t know the exact weight, but the heaviest watch I own is 203g and this one felt even more solid. It s...  

... because it doesn´t make that much fun to look at "press pictures" only. I tried to work with them and to use them as a start, because I know most of us are not patient enough until we get the "real thing" - me included. Hope you liked the little overv...

No standout favorites. The 5539 is a favorite, but not a possibility for even most of the top 1%. Really like the 5130J, but still love the 5130R and P models. The 5116R is nice, but the G is the one I'd wear. The 5227 still isn't as good as the 5127 in m... 

And a chance for us to comment on the new releases. I do like the slightly larger 5227 & the opening case back is a nice & surprising feature, though personally I do like the seamless shoulders of the 5127 I looking forward to seeing actual photos... 

Maybe that is one of Patek's strengh: being able to provide a wide offer without disturbing their fans and seeming bringing too much novelties. Nice point of view Oliver ;) Cheers, Mark
