5110J, a long time coming
Jan 14, 2016,06:29 AM
Good morning from GMT -5,
I have been a long time lurker at this wonderful website. I have enjoyed reading all the posts and looking at all the amazing photos. My story is not unique I am sure. I have been a watch lover all my life. I think I get the trait from my father who has been wearing Patek Philippe since the 1960's. I am an avid reader of Watch Time. In the Fall of 2001 they published a special issue on Patek Philippe with the 5110J world time featured on the cover. When I saw this it was love at first sight. I was mesmerized by the beautiful guilloche pattern in the center of the dial as well as the dial layout and proportions. The caliber 240, visible through the back crystal is a mechanical work of art as well. I loved everything about the watch. Unfortunately at that time, 15 years ago, for many reasons I could not justify the purchase. I kept the special issue over the past 15 years as a reminder of my goal. I have read the article many times and admired all the beautiful photography on its pages. Many times I would simply place the magazine on the coffee table a reminder of my goal. I am a fan of art in particular usable art such a beautiful musical instrument or a fine watch. I like this type of functional art much more than a painting or a sculpture.
This week upon the delivery of my 5110J my goal was achieved. Out of pure luck my AD happened to take in a mint 5110J at the same time i emailed him that I was interested in finding one. It was meant to be, the stars had finally aligned.
I must say that this piece has exceeded my expectations. It is much more beautiful in person. It wears beautifully. I really enjoy the subtle elegance of the watch. I think the size, 37mm, is perfect. I love the dial layout and the intricate guilloche pattern in the center. It is truly a work of art..
I would like to thank all of those on the forum who have made many great posts on the 5110 and many of the other Patek watches. This site is a great resource helping me to really appreciate the beauty of these watches. Below you will find my very average iPhone photos of my new world time.
Thank you all and Best Wishes for a great 2016!
