…I ended up removing a coupla bridges and pressing the dial foot out from the front of the plate:
I'll have to sort out the remaining bit o' screw that's still lodged in the plate, but, at least, now I can repair the watch's original problem and complete the overhaul.

Here is something you might want to try.
Take a piece of steel wire that is the same diameter as the hole for the screw. Turn the end down in the lathe till it is about 3/4 the size of threaded part remaining. And dress the tip with even cuts so it is jagged. (gives the wire a little bite, to gr...

I was able to remove the remainder of the screw by…
…modifying an extra screwdriver similar to the way you suggested and, then, I was able to back the screw piece out: So, case solved. Thank you! ...
