I have. 5740 from 2018 and it was the only watch I selected at Baselworkd 2018 and that year had iconic releases..
5270P, 5531R, 5968a…the blue did it for me and the grand complication. However I do find it easier to read data in window format so 5726 wins that. However the 5726 is much thicker..the 5740 glides under a shirt sleeve….to get an annual calendar when you had the PC just felt like the 5726 would be redundant.
So I still believe a 5740P could be an only watch for me…..
But I ordered a 5726a this week as I also think it’s a nice watch

The PC complication with this dial fits much better in combination with a classic case of 3940 or 5140 imho

And one could easily justify having both… but if only one watch and that one is a Nautilus then perhaps your steel 5726 would be the one. Steel being a far more wearable metal for frequent wear and the 5726 is such a versatile reference. Can play both for...

I actually have viewed the 5740 and had it on my wrist. It is an extremely special watch. That said, all things considered, for me I prefer having 5726.

The nautilus looks most attractive with only 2 hands on the main pinion.. But in this case, 5726 comes out on top - I prefer the blue and nautilus should be in steel

Thank you Henry for the compliment and detailed comparison. I have a somewhat different view about your comment that the 5726 is “more contemporary”.
For me the layout of the dial with month and day windows at 12 and sweep seconds harks all the way back to the 2497. That said, for me they are both clearly creatures of the modern era in both design and function. Best, Patekova
