It really is awesome piece.

Rolex 6536 - I had a chance to observe this one in person

 By: Bill : June 11th, 2015-19:17
It is a unique piece.

Probably no finer example out there.

And because it is a 6536 it has a much bigger feel than the 6536/1 and the 5508.

What a great example of the 6536.

Bill

Thank you Bill

You've showed me some superb examples, which I probably will never see elsewhere.

You have incredible taste, knowledge and a great eye for quality.

Amazing collection my friend but I'll never forget your superb 6542. Perfect 10/10 full gloss dial, amazing case and an insert to die for.

All the best,

Leon

Aaah, you saw Bill's 6542? He is a dangerous guy. ;)

 By: amanico : June 15th, 2015-22:46

And his Watch is not less dangerous, either... A beauty, I agree.

Best,

Nicolas

Well, that's easy...

Nicholas - your 7924 is my dream, but you already know that!  And Bill's twin 5510s are awesome.  I would say Baron's 6200 - but I don't think I could even dream THAT big!

-Mike

Quite happy with my 7924. I would love to add the 7922, too. [nt]

I'm particularly curious on the 7922, is that a small crown there ? It's amazing !

I don't own any , but here are some I photographed before

Good thread

Sam

Yes, Tudor 7922, small crown. All beautiful examples you posted here. Thanks. [nt]

1961 serial
1961 serial

Superb. Through the craze of the plexy, you guess a gorgeous dial, whose graduation and wording turned to a very sensual orange. [nt]

The value of history lies in preserving it.

 By: prelovedrolex : November 16th, 2015-01:25
Thanks Amanico. To date this has to be my most incredible 'barn find'. There is of course a story behind it as unbelievable as you can only imagine. Let's just say the original owner chose me to be its custodian henceforth, and as such it has no monetary value attached, only historic importance. Best, JPB

Please tell us the story behind it! Now, I am very curious. [nt]

Passing of the torch.

 By: prelovedrolex : November 16th, 2015-22:47
The story behind this 5508 started with a phone call, completely out of the blue. A gentleman I've never met before, called me up and said I came recommended to 'be of service' to him. So I met him the following day. After lengthy discussions about life and finding common ground on many shared passions, he pulled from his pocket this 1961 serial 5508 and said: " You can have it." I declined his generous donation/offer of course, but he insisted he wanted me to have it, to which I insisted I trade him something for it as a sign of appreciation and goodwill. After much back and forth 'insisting' on both parts, I became the custodian of his 21st birthday present, and he in turn became the new owner of the timepiece I had on my wrist that morning. I did make him a promise though, a promise that I will never part with it. As such it has no monetary value to me, instead it holds immeasurable sentimental value. As it was gifted to him by his Farther so long ago, the 'passing of the torch', so to speak, will ensure it will be used as an educational tool to allow others the enjoyment of such a significant piece of ROLEX history. That's the story. It is as unbelievable as the 5508 is beautiful. In the end, I made a new friend in a gentleman who not only had this piece of history to pass on, but a wealth of knowledge and life experiences to share. And I am all earssmile

Superb story. Thanks for sharing it. [nt]

With regards to brands, I find there are so many nice time pieces to choose from out there across many manufacturers and with my limited means have to be selective in what I end up going for. Lately the pull has been going towards older pieces. In the world of vintage it is certainly far harder to stick to one or a few brands as so many made high quality beautiful pieces back then. Whilst I can understand how some focus entire collections around one brand or even one model (like submariners, daytonas) I am a bit more lost in this world and look for diversity as much as I would wish to have multiple iterations of each piece I own!
I have seen some your pieces here on the forum, and the items you show are all quite impressive!
