I was just offered a 5508 with papers @ € 40k meaning that I'll focus on a bit more realistic watches and keep dreaming.

A 4L 5508 is something you don't see that often. Especially with a dial in that condition.

The other picture was much better. The hands don't look gilt enough for my taste. I know the 5508 is a later model than the 6536-1 so the hands moved away from being the golden gilt to the more silver looking hands that are also common on very early 5512. I personally prefer the 'golden' hands found in the early subs.

This way, you will have, for sure, one of the first Sub....

At the moment I am typing these words, it has been a Virgin year, Watch speaking. I spent most of my time trying to find parts and to service my watches.

Which is quite a budget.

So, no regrets, but I would like to add at least one Watch, this year!
