. . . that Rolex owes it's commercial success in no small part due to it's persistent advertising campaign? I remember seeing ads back in the '60s . . . I'm sure the cumulative effect was instrumental in my selection of a Rolex AirKing as my first watch in '86 . . . cordially, Art

and also a bit conservative ;-) and not only in their ad campaigns...

Now things are beginning to change, but for how many years has Rolex just produced the same models over and over with only very small evolutions....while other brands were discovering new complications and new material ?

. . . greatest strength. How many people have never given a second thought about watches in general, yet when they're successful enough to spend a tidy sum of disposable income have decided on a Rolex because of the years of persistent advertising in mainstream media? That their models exhibit little change over the decades is probably a comfort to the guy who's about to buy his first watch. Which is he going to instinctively prefer, a Rolex that he's familiar with, or a Breguet that he's never seen, much less heard of before? Considering how overwhelmingly successful Rolex is compared to the rest of the industry, perhaps their advertising campaign should be emulated by others . . . cordially, Art
