How sad was I??? Over 20 years ago all from the National Geographical magazine. The Newbies will think I’m crazy. Back in the day before the internet this sort of thing excited some of us. The only way we could gain experience with Watches was to touch and feel not look at a screen. Jesus I sound like my dad. Found these last night. Had forgotten I had them. All interesting reads. M.
it nurtured imagination more than today. I still remember looking at these pictures, dreaming of these watches more then 30 years ago. Somehow made me dream more back then compared with the information overflow of today.
I used to cut out the 1:1s and put it on my wrist to admire it when I was in college and no money!! Now I go after the real deal one by one. Life goals to me now is acquiring objects I missed when I was a child.
There was really no one to share this guilty pleasure with.. It was easier to share Playboy favorites with friends than share your enthusiasm over a watch.. a mechanical one at that during the era of quartz. Going to a watch store never even crossed my mind back then for a variety of reasons. The print ad was my window display. How I fell in love with my first Rolex.. the white dial exp2.
And the exact response I was hoping to evoke by this post. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and your honesty. They brought up the exact same emotion in me the other day when I found them. M.
Unknown to us, probably years of being “alone” is what makes for these great online fridnships now. Thanks for the reply Miles. Now I know I wasnt alone
Great answer, Echi. Very well written. I guess it is what most of us felt, and you described it very well. Thanks or because of these ads, I fell in love with three: GMT MASTER, Explo II and Dayto. [nt]
