Do you guys feel there isn't anything that special this year compared to the prior years? What are your thoughts?
For me, I feel this year is more of a foundation building year for the following years.
Cheers,
Anthony
Maybe i should really stop purchasing any Panerais in the future!
Ciao

for some 2011 models to come out...Liking the 422 very much..Couldn't help feeling the 372 missing some heft because of the plexy....so this one will probably be better for me...The 399 ofcourse is a shame..Like almost everyone I will miss out on it..Woukld have been just as nice with inhouse mvmnt IMO...Don't really dig all this minerva heritage...With the lack of rolex cortebert and angelus mvmnt this is what the've come up with...Not really worth the pricetag but hey..what can we do......
Best Guillermo
WIth past behavior, I expect more Bronzo in different dial color combinations. I'd be highly surprised if they don't release more variants in the future!

Anthony

Then again he loves surprises........
Best Guillermo.
but then again, who really knows? If Panerai ever did introduce another Bronze watch, I personally would not be surprised at all.

I'm not sure if it is just me but I sense a bit of Panerai fatigue. Every product eventually cools off after a while and I think that Panerai has had its run. I think they have facilitated the fatigue by a series of missteps that have been debated on this forum, which may include re-issuing and recycling watches that were rare at one point, straying too far from the roots of the brand, the poor quality movement in the Brooklyn bridge model, creating "special editions" for every possible market, and generally operating with a sense of invinceability. I get the sense that they are trying to squeeze maximum profit out of the brand at the cost of upsetting its core customers.
In previous years, I think the 399 would have set off a storm of interest. Aside from the fact that it isn't a very good replica (compare it to the JLC Polaris or Deep Sea tributes), I think people fear that they may release as many oddball variations and derivatives of the 399 that the market will bear.
There seems to be more thiought in profit than in keeping to their core values. With Panerai it's past lies in the dial. So many variations and weird combinations of materials made it a clumbsy but unique tool to wear on the wrist. That was the case all the way through Pre-V. I did try on the new Luminor 47mm and it's a nice example of vintage case work. The dial lacks though.
Respectfully
Don
It is very wise they do this.
You are always full of wisdom bro, glad to see that.

not as good as SIHH2011.... but this is why I call it a perfect year ! You can't expect to get more and more every year! What sould they bring in SIHH 2020 ?
This year is imo more than good enough, and not exagerated
The 395 is not what I'm looking for when I'm buying Panerai but I really like the movement
399 is nice but 100 pce is stupid. They should have made 1000 and use a Panerai movement, not this Minerva which makes it too expensive
422 and 423 are nice, these are standard production so the original 372 will be an extra model ( a GMT is expected too)
The 372 on the other hand ... I think it will be a 1 year run ( it will take 2 or 3 years but I think it will stop at these 3500)
424 and 425 are nice but these are the watches one buys if he cant get the 448 and 449
The 438 with ceramic bracelet is not for me but I'm sure some will love it
Panerai has been spinning it's wheels a bit over past years as it issued reiterations of previous models, and now we have a re-edition of a re-edition in the 448 being an update of the 249.
The emergence of the 2533 inspired models is a good step albeit symbolic of Panerai's vision being more to the past than the future; the 449 dial really sings to me. The 399 Rad with that case, crown and Minerva movement will be an obvious winner - price might be the sticking point not to mention on 50 units will be sold by themselves.
I think 2012 is a year of steady as she goes without being too disappointing or exciting. I did anticipate some more dynamic models to counter the economic woes of Europe, but given Panerai probably developed this years launch 3 or 4 years back, models have probably been locked in. Perhaps you are right in describing this as a foundation year.
the hybrid-ization of the California dial, offered in every possible permutation it's a bit...over the top, IMO. I reserve a 2nd opinion, once I'll have the chance to wear a couple of them...live...
for me this Year.
i love the 399 but way out of my Budget. ;0((((((((. they should've done it in a Limited Run of 1000 Pieces with an Inhouse Movement rather than 100 Pcs..
and the only other one that i Like/ Love is the 449.
but why too many New Models.??! and what makes it even worse is that: some of Them are Redundant. !!
Cheers
I wouldn't be surprised. It's just another different combination they can make for a future model, and my bet is it's only a matter of time. Maybe change the dial or luminova color with this version if it happens.
Look at new PAM424 - it's the same as a PAM249 but with different movement and Pre-V logo on the dial (along with some other minute changes). Very similar watches IMO.
I bet if Panerai introduces another PAM399, it'll be a Base model w/ no seconds hand.

will it be like a 372 for all...... or limited , and if so will it be like 449 for boutiques only, or like the 249, for all........
