Extreme Lab 2 - always a pleasure
Just want to share some pictures of this special watch.
I see it as an expression of the JLC savoir-faire or maybe vouloir-faire in the sense that they wanted to demonstrate their capabilities to the world. Even today, some 12-14 years later it still mamages to surprise and delight people…well, maybe more surprise than delight. Quite a few people always think it’s a Mille or an Hublot and are shocked to find that it is ‘just’ a JLC.
Anyway, I love it.

Actually there were 'oligarch' watches produced exactly at the same time as this extrem-lab 2
It's a bit a narrow view to believe JLC of today has a very different focus or has parted ways..
The multi-axis tourbillons were introduced in 2004, and there has been one or the other in production since the last 20 years.
You could label them oligarch watch design, or more positively as halo-watches.
In fact, multi-axis tourbillons are pretty much inherent of modern-era JaegerLeCoultre since they were the first major branch to launch one commercially.

Well, at that time there was innovation for everyone and every " wallet ". See the Amvox II, for example. The last " affordable " original watch was the... Geophysic True Second and Universal Time.
And that was in 2015, if my memory serves me well...
Now if you want originality, you have to go high end. Which is not bad. But which is sad is that they gave up the access and mid level in terms of originality and innovation.

I stand corrected. Thank you, very true.
Let me try to rephrase my thinking. I find that the balance between halo-watches and watches for more normal budgets has shifted. I (seem to) remember ia time where you were able to choose between a number of Master Controls, Master Compressors, Amvoxes and even Reversos at attractive price levels, especially compared to other brands.
And yes, JLC has always had those high-level watches, but maybe the design was a bit more discrete. “Oligarch watch design+ is probably a good better way to describe quite a few of the new high-end offerings.
Anyway, I still love La Grande Maison from that perspective. It’s been a while since I have felt the ‘I gotta have it’ feeling that I experienced with the Reverso TT1931, the TT Geophysic, the TT Deep Sea, the Amvox 2 in its first iteration. the Master Compressor Navy Seals Alarm. etc. All watches where I saw them and bought them on the spot at my ADs.

Which is all fine. I certainly have my prejudices too against certain brands - and once in a while I do get a wake-up call making me realize that they actually do great stuff, just coming at it from a different perspective.

It always takes me a bit of time adjusting to its size in all dimensions. But then I always end up smiling. .

Mine has been back in Switzerland for a full service since the beginning of Jan. I'm getting impatient wanting it back on the wrist.

Out of curiosity, any particular reason for the service or just taking care of the watch?
I believe it hasn't been serviced in years and was running fast so it was time for a service.
When it returns I'm going to try to get a custom strap made, I'll let you know how it goes.
