 By: small-luxury-world : April 7th, 2015-15:24
we should also look at the lattest one from Basel 2015:

Of course, yours is much nicer and (probably) a rare find. Still I think the new one isn´t bad either smile

Great post!

Oliver

Thank you Oliver

It's hard to compare new watches and vintage.
I like vintage but new watches are important because when a line didn't stop for more than 60 years, it means something, it's good for the new watches as for vintage one.
Thanks for the photo smile

You might be surprised but what I find interesting in the Breitling of the last years is the professional quartz line. With these Breitling is sticking to "watches for professionals", like the emergency who saved lives, the last connected pilot watch etc...
They didn't try to do luxurious ceramic, glamourous new kind of gold, but stayed faithful to what toolwatches are. Like in the review "meant to be used, not to be worn".

It's not my kind of watch and the design is matter of taste, but I think it's a courageous not to follow the pure luxury stuff but to offer another kind of watches, useful but with nice finish.

Fantastic Post! You made me write an Astronaut post in response

since I was just able to see and hear many of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo heros.

Thanks for the recap of the Breitling Navitimer.

Cheers,

Cazalea

Thank you Cazalea!

What a blessing for you to be part of this meeting! For the Mercury 7, only John Glenn remains, what an adventure it was!

Scott Carpenter - From Cosmonaut to Aquanaut.

 By: Bill : April 7th, 2015-19:05
People Under the SEA. - SEALAB

SEALAB II was a completely new habitat, 57 by 12 feet in size, and unlike SEALAB I included hot showers and refrigeration. It was placed in the La Jolla Canyon off the coast of California, at a depth of 205 fsw (62 m). On August 28, 1965, the first of three teams of divers moved into what became known as the “Tilton Hilton” because of the slope of the site. Each team spent 15 days in the habitat, but aquanaut/astronaut Scott Carpenter remained below for a record 30 days. During that time, he was able to speak with astronaut Gordon Cooper who was in the Gemini space capsule, orbiting the Earth. In addition to physiological testing, the divers tested new tools, methods of salvage, and an electrically heated drysuit.

Unfortunately, the tragic death of Berry Cannon, a diver on SeaLab III, due to a dive equipment malfunction ended the program.  There is a lot of watch history that I have heard and read about within the SEALAB program.  Berry Cannon had a Doxa Sub 300 (no t) and many other divers tested the Tudor with exploding crystals upon reaching the suface.  And the Doxa Conquistador was present.

A lot of Dive and watch history exists of the coast of San Diego.

Bill

Wow amazing Bill, thanks for your help and answer.

These guys were an elite. Not everyone can be a jet pilot, to be a jet test pilot, have a bachelor degree and have top physical condition makes a statement on who these guys were. And one of seven in the end.
Carpenter wanted to discover and although there is controversy on Aurora 7, what he brought back for informations in the end was precious.
...

BTW I have fond memories of San Diego, the only place I was in the US (for business trip).
The mix between a nice modern town, the luxurious Coronado island where hundreds of military trains at the same time, and the sound of helicopter all around.

I recall doing a little running in the morning on Coronado, till the point where 200 guys runs in the other direction. All with dark green t shirts, all twice as wide as I was , their arms being the size of my legs, and runing two times faster than I did (and certainly 4 times longer ^^)...Marines...
Very impressive.

Hoo and the seafood I love, great place to be imho, I would love to go back there.

Great reference post
