Last week I posted some pictures and thoughts about a Bremont ALT1-ZT that I purchased prior to their organizational change. Today I am posting it for a different reason. I will try to be less wordy this time. A small number of you might remember I was diagnosed with an infection around my artificial hip joint. I had 2 surgeries to try to treat the infection and eliminate it without taking the entire implant out. Both failed and on April 11 I had the implant removed completely. It was a 6 hour procedure and I was in ICU for 6 days due to shock from blood loss and sepsis. They cannot put another permanent implant back in until the infection is gone, and the temporary fix, called a spacer, is incredibly painful when moving the leg.
After tests this week strongly suggested the infection was gone, I had surgery earlier today to put a permanent implant back in. It’s amazing I hardly feel like I had surgery compared to what the spacer felt like. I know they tell you to not bring valuables to the hospital but I feel so naked without a watch on. It feels like a part of home is with me which gives me some comfort while laid up. So after 8 months of dealing with this and 6 more months of antibiotics I should be good to go barring any complications 🤞. All this makes me grateful to be here with family, friends, and all the things that make life great. I hope none of my watches see a hospital room for a while.😊
all this pain and hardship. Your stoic thinking and gratitude to what life offers even in this painful days is very inspiring. Glad you had something from home on your wrist that comforted you in these difficult times. With both hands fingers crossed I’m wishing you a swift and seamless recovery ❤️🩹
My back went out while I was on a boating trip (so painful and paralyzing) when I really needed to be able to move quickly. Many Motrin later it was like it never happened. Nothing like what you are going through but pain changes everything. It sounds like these kinds of infections seem to crop up more often in the age of newer and more antibiotics. Love that Bremont…heal up!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I am familiar with your journey as I have had patients who went through the same thing.

I wish you continued good health and hopefully this is behind you. It’s things like this that make us realize how frail life is. All the best, my friend, Tony. This message has been edited by cazalea on 2025-07-12 18:22:50
Thanks everyone for all the kind words and well wishes.

I haven’t been on the site long but I know the camaraderie goes well beyond watch collecting. Last update I bother you with they are sending me home today due to things looking so good. Less than 24 hours for a hip replacement. Not too bad😊
Maybe if I held the face of the watch to the incision it would speed healing and prevent infection.🤪. Would that be eastern, western, global medicine? Love it.
Finally you've reached the end of that unfortunate painful journey! I'm SO happy to hear that your hip is no longer infected! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And thank you Mike for adding a little levity to the thread. I think keeping a light attitude, state of mind, whatever you want to call it helps in these types of situations.
I am so sorry that you had to undergo such an ordeal, surgery is never easy, but, when complications set in, it makes it so much worse. You will never part with that watch, I bet, and these little machines bring us comfort and happiness that non-watch people will never understand, and memories, too. I hope that you recover well and are back and super healthy very soon!
