"Longines has long occupied the entry-level luxury position in the Swatch
Group ladder, which means a step up in terms of movement specs over
brands like Tissot, Mido and Hamilton that mostly use the ETA C07, i.e.
ETA 2824 calibre variants. The Master Collection Small Seconds is
equipped with the L893.5, essentially a modified variant of the ETA A31,
with improved 72-hour power reserve and anti-magnetic components when
compared to the base calibre. The beat rate is 3.5Hz, and Longines did
dress up the movement somewhat, though I do think the Master Collection
Small Seconds would be a great example in an argument for closed casebacks, especially if it would mean a reduction in thickness."

They really can come up with where the market ask for.
I found always that the maison is a very good entry for new watch lovers.
Many start with Seiko, but hey, Longines is far more original and classy.

I share your view on the desirability of Longines and I think the brand with its great heritage and history is undervalued.
However, Swatch Group as the owner seems to pursue a strategy of positioning Longines more upscale and thus the prices have gone up significantly. While Seiko has become pricier too, their entry point for most of the collection remains far below Longines.
Not every watch lover can afford to start the hobby with this Swiss brand….

They def nailed it with this series imho. All three are amazing
To be seen in person, but the detail which bugs me a lot is the height of the rehaut... Why can't they do it flatter?
These were quite prominently featured on a number of websites when released.
Unfortunately, the fact that the '7' is chopped and the '5' isn't makes the dial look lopsided.

I like them a lot! I saw the salmon in the flesh and it looks great
My only reservation is the indicies. Not sure I like the engraved indicies and in the flesh that are not as visible as in these pictures. The watch also feel smaller then 38mm due to the basel shape. But don’t get me wrong they are awesome! Finally the movement is also not bad looking in the back as we can see the weights on the balance wheel which is always a feature I enjoy seeing
