Who thinks 'pocket shots' are pretentious?
De rigeur these days is a pocket shot... you know... the picture of the guy sticking his hand in his pocket like... he's just standing there (with his watch-hand in pocket) glamorously bored waiting for his sandwich... or just standing there glamorously bored and anonymously narcissist (with his watch-hand in pocket) waiting for the CVS line to shorten (CVS is notoriously slow) or um... watch-hand in pocket, just standing there while his friend snaps a quick pic while they are both waiting for a beautiful Swiss Cow to come back when called...
I love all watch pics... but guys... cool it on the 'relaxed' Mr. Hanging Out Pocket pics... (so Candid, so Casual!)
Maybe, but more pretentious than watch and car shots or wrist shots at the beach?
I don't like them personally but more or less pretentious than anything else seems a tough line to draw....

For a guy like me who still produces more or less
the same old wrist shot every other day, the hand-in-pocket ones are refreshingly different. Plus I can't figure out for the life of me how it's done without someone's assistance... So, no, I like seeing them, infinitely more so than the watch-and-steering-wheel ones, and I might aspire to one day come up with such a neat shot myself.

No - I don't agree.
Shots with a beautiful and exclusive watch with an equally exclusive car, boat or whatever in the background I find much more pretentious. I post some hand in pocket shots myself (and I do take them myself as well) because I like the variation of different types of pics. And since many of the watches in this forum are very exclusive, in a way everey pic is in some meaning pretentious (hey - look what I've got!). But since we all share the same interest and - I presume - we all enjoy looking att fine watches, it's ok. And regarding hand in pocket pics versus other wristshots, I can't say I have any preferences. But I do like variation.
Hand in pocket shots serve a purpose.
If I'm considering a watch, I want to see it in its "natural" setting. A shot of a watch how it is worn in real life and how it appears when viewed by another person is informative. It also helps to see how it appears with various types of wardrobe. Some dress watches go well with casual clothing, others do not. As Chrissie Hynde once said, "pretentiousness is in the eye of the pretender."

No doubt, a pocket shot is always interesting, and agree with those who argue that it gives a kind of 'backdrop' context... visually , to give the viewer a sense of how a watch fits in to a scene...
However... there is still something about a pocket shot that is so... 'full of itself'... chuckle...
