First independent in blue
Just had the opportunity to purchase my grail parmigiani tonda 1950 and what's more I have to choice of a blue dial. A truly beautiful simplistic watch with its unique design language. Also a unique movement which encompasses a micro rotor and the packaging comes in an useful combination where the watch box is actually a two piece travel pouch and the card and manual are placed in a large card holder both in similar leather. Have to say I'm pretty impressed with both the quality and smell of the leather. The buckle is pretty smart with a built in extension and the leather strap is pretty well made too... images

The Tonda 1950 is one of my favorite dress watches. An elegant and modern look, with a movement that is quite well finished! I especially like the design of the lugs on Parmigiani's watches.

Independent and the wish
I thought the brand was a part of a conglomeration.
This is the truth: Parmigiani is an independent, but for how long it takes a big conglomeration swallow the independent?
Independents are F.P. Journe, PP, Rolex, Eberhart/co,
Ball, Chronoswiss, Louis Moinet, Van der Gang, Armin Strom, Jean Richard, Parmigiani.
Wat is better? Independents or members of a luxury conglomeration?

PP and rolex has been standing pretty strongly....
That said independents are more unrestricted in their expressions and not dictated by group strategy, such as that with blancpain, breguet and jaques droz....but in the case of iwc, jlc they've competing pretty healthily..

What i see is that the Swatch group focus with Jaquet Droz strong to the Asian market, because that watches look so Asian tasted, it is almost kitsch. Like an Chinese calendar you get when you order a meal at a Chinees restaurant.

Those are some but with the micro brands there are
probably hundreds of independent brands out there. I prefer an independent but with many of the brands,
particularly if you buy a complicated watch, there is the risk that the company will not be around years from now to supply parts and service. This is always a concern to me.

PF are such an under appreciated brand.
I had an early Tonda for a while, but unfortunately had to let it go. It was something of an impulse buy, and I’m someone that has to keep an eye on resale value (I don’t flip, but I can’t afford to buy watches that I can get close to my money back if I want), and i fairly quickly realized the market for PF is very soft. I unexpectedly got an opportunity to use it in a trade, so I had to take it. If I could afford to just collect without worrying about residual value, I’d love to get another.
