Patek Philippe

I own a 5980 Nautilus in steel and since last year i'm hesitating on a 5960P blue dial, yesterday I visited a Patek exhibition and got the chance to see the new 5980/1R-001, damn that one got me hesitating on which one to choose finally, both are very different but I like the 5960 because it's not such a real classic watch as most other Pateks are and can easily be worn with jeans and polo, but the again ... the rose gold bracelet on the 5980 is off course a real 'looker' , the price for both is almost the same.

So ... what would you choose and why ???

OR it is the bling side of you which speaks, and in this case, you will go for the bling Nautilus. And sell your SS Nautilus Chrono.

OR you are considering a nice complement to your 5980 SS, and you will go for this not less nice 5960P.

What a Duo you would have! Two different expressions of a Chrono ala Patek, with a touch of originality ( the monocounter ).

You got it, I am all in favor of the 2d option.

... coming your way. Bringing dilemma's every time! If i were you i'd go for the 5960P blue. 1st of all because i own it and its one of my favorite watches, that get a lot of wrist time. The beauty of that blue dial, and the contrast with the platinum case is amazing. The kind of watches you will love more and more.

Both are great and at the end it is just a matter of (life) style.

With a stainless 5980 already on the wrist, why spend lots of money to have the same movement in another 5980 or a 5960?  There are much better options to complement your 5980, unless you already have most of those. 

but most of the Patek dials are to classic for my style (reason also why i leaned also a bit more forward to  some Lange's like the Datograph f.ex) the 5960 was a bit the ecxeption in the whole range, it seemed to me a bit more modern if you can use that term,  I don't want to make the mistake buying an ultra expensive watch and then keeping it in the drawer for just a few occasions.

Why not consider a Rose gold classic watch like the new 5205R w black dial or the 5205G if you are a white metal guy. It is an annual calender which is totally different from your 5980a. You safe almost 25-30k compare to the 5960p which i think in your case having two chrono watch is a little redundent. You can use the cash for future watches. Just another suggestion.

I saw that one in the flesh also last weekend and have to say at 38K vs 72K it's absolutely a great looking piece, especially the glossy dial makes it very different ....

but i have a week spot for blue dials   ..... that made the 5960 P hard to beat + it's a bit less flashy maybe in white metal.

I did pick up something ... non Patek

 

but I finally made a 'hold' on the 5960 P   picking it up next month on my birthday, so at least i had an excuse !!

5980 1R or 5170 G. Not crazy about the 5960. It doesnt pop enough for my taste

It looks fab!

I would only think of the two tone as a contender to this baby.

The 5960P is more understated but to hell with understament if there are such beautiful RG watches.

I am sure you can wear it also to casual occasions very well as it does not show the gold character, for the untrained eye certainly.
