5711/1a-010 or the 5990
At last, i am offered by a tarder both watches. Regardless of the craziness of the price, i am interested in getting your opinion as experts and collectors. I currently own the 5712g, 5524g, 5205R and 5230G. I would like a SS nautius. And while the 5711 is simple and charming, the 5990 looks more complicated but also more interesting for me.
What is your advice in terms of both owning and enjoying the watch as well as retaining future value?

Since you have the 5712g
The 5711 makes more sense to me. If you didnt have the 5712G, my vote would be the 5990
Sorry to be frank, but I'm glad the bottle of wine helped the other day, since it appears you still haven't pulled the trigger on the 5990 at 2 x retail...
If now your concern on "retaining future value" refers to the insane market price they'll charge you for either Nautilus, then I'd really consider investing in a small wine cellar my friend.... A lot of fun, and it will literally save you tens of thousands! ;-) Cheers!

5990 for me. It has a different 'feeling' compared to your 5712. 5711 has a blue dial though?

I have both and each has its own appeal. 5711 for everyday wear and 5990 is my travel watch. Until my Chron button broke just recently, my 5990 is out of commission.

In terms of retaining the value in the future, I have no clue given current super inflated prices. But one detail to consider, there are plenty of 5711s out there already, but not so many 5990s, so the 'rarity' winner is clear.
Furthermore, having a 5712G, you are already enjoying a flat dressier Nautilus. The 5711 wears pretty much the same (apart from the bracelet, of course). The 5990 is a different story, wears much bigger and sportier. I also prefer to see some complications on the dial instead of a simpler one (the are exceptions, of course).

You are are right on the rarity of 5990. Did not think of it and the 5990 was initialy my first choice but got a bit surprised when i saw it bulky on my wrist. Also the guy i am buying from, which i trust said there are way more demands on the 5711 so from value rentention it seems the 5711 win. Of course there is a major difference in price! So confusingš§

But honestly, if you're not in a hurry, I would try to get the 5990 at retail from an AD and would buy something else with the premium.
5990 from retail!! They stopped taking waiting list on the watch... it is a 4-5 years wait and i dont see this getting better... i am definitely as patient! [nt]

Then if you desperately want a Nautilus and can afford to play this crazy-prices game, I would go for the 5990. Much more watch.
Get a 5980/1a blue. Best combination of both.
Just like you i prefer busy dials over simple ones that eliminates the 5711.
The 5990 on the other hand has fantastic complications particularly the dual time function Iām disappointed with the 60min (why not 12h) chrono and I find the dial overly busy. Take out the date wheel at 12 oāclock and it would be a perfect watch for me!
