How come i don't live in the mountains .. or at least nearby :-( ... .
In the past 3 weeks i went to the Ardennes twice (in Belgium) to visit some clients. Offcourse i took my RS because i know there are some great roads, only problem is to find these roads. So the night before i did my homework on 'maps' on the iPad and found some nice 'asphalt' (and concrete).
While 'driving' these fabulous bends i was wondering what would have happened to me if i was born in such a region ? Most probably i would have hurt myself in a carcrash or a motorcycle accident but besides that one can only guess ... driving instructor, car dealer , amateur rally driver ... ???
Fact is: I think i would have had A LOT OF FUN ... .
Unfortunately i didn't record the best part but these roads are made for a car like this, or should i say this car is made for these roads ? The only times i remember i had such fun was on my bike somewhere in the Alps or in Tuscany.
The sad part is i have to drive at least 90 miles to reach these roads and those 90 miles include passing a major city with a lot of traffic.
Some pictures:
Back to nature ... errr ... well, sort off ... maybe an old 205 GTI would be more appropriate
I was stunned with this view ... in my own country ... .
Bim wondering why he wasn't born here .. .
Look at those prices ... oh yeah, we're in France ..... but still in the Ardennes !
"Le restaurant se trouve derrière le bar"
Honest food !
Dang !!! If i lived here i could have my floating island (ile flottante) every day !
Chimay ... nostalgia ... no races anymore sine a couple of years :-( ...
This guy isn't crazy .. just celebrating life ... as this is the place were he almost lost it .... the tire-wall eventually saved him.
Later that day i had an assignment in Antwerp ... cruise control at 55 mph ... same fun as doing 100+ mph on roads like these ... but much safer at 55 mph
Very nice introduction to your country, the roads look in great shape. Was access to the track just left open or did you and your friend book access?
Here are a couple of my favorite roads -
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of this part of the drive as it was twilight dark and raining, but the roads were epic in a different way -
Other memorable roads were in the Alpes-Maritimes; Grimsel Pass; the roads around Vevey including a stone two way tunnel wide enough only for one car without traffic control and with incline!; the canyon roads around Malibu; the roads east and west of the Grapevine in Southern California...ahhhh...great memories!
... were people work a bit less and enjoy more ...
Some cool roads indeed but nothing like a real mountain road in the Alps ... :-( .... .
The Chimay track is actually public road with some chicanes, the chicanes are open so you can play a bit if you want ... it used to be an extremely fast circuit with some long straights.
Found a vid of one of the last races ... better skip the first 20-30 seconds !
than Belgium has no interesting roads. It looks pretty good to me and I think you were having fun. If we ever again have a weekend with good weather I will make a little video of my Sunday morning, get-up-before-the- motorcycles-wake-up-and-slow-things-down route, Grandson - Mauberget - Bullet and back. Yes I am itching to move out too Have fun, Don
... before reaching 5 miles of nice roads .. then i have to drive another 25 miles for some 50+/- miles of +/- nice roads ... and that's about it i think .. .
Really not comparable to the Alps my friend ... i did some roadtrips with my bike in the Alps in the late 90ies .... a completely different world
