I sadly have many dream cars, in my dream list, like some Lotus, Super 7 or Elan, Porsche,such as the 356 or an old 911, Aston Martin, the DB 5 or a more recent one, such as the DB 7 ( Please, my purist friends, don't kill me for that ), and some Italian fantaisies, such as Alfa Romeo, Lambo, or Fiat ( what about the Dino, eeeh? ), but there is also a much more affordable one, which has a lot of charm, not very impressive in terms of speed and power, but what a class!

This car is... A Volvo.

And this Volvo is the famous P 1800: ( picture found on the net ) :



The line is just superb, reminding a bit some of the best british creations, timeless, too.

I see some cruising in the parisian streets, from time to time, and each time, my heart beats faster.

If noly I had the place to park it, I would jump on it!

I'm lucky (and also unlucky )to not live in Paris or London, so parking is no problem. I also wanted since I was young a Peugeot 504 cabriolet. I still think this is one of the better designs from Pininfarina. Still stylish even for a 4 seater cabrio. You don't see that anymore today!

So here is mine, so Nico even Frensh knew how to built cars (although thie 504 coupe and cabrio were made in Italy).

I agree that the 404 Cabriolet and the 504 are among the nicest french cars ever made, with the SM and the alpine Renault A 110, without forgetting the DS Cabriolet.

You are lucky to own one of these!

The condition looks very good, too.

But you know the saying: The Grass is greener in your neighbour's garden.

Were designing these cars in an époque when nice ideas, ideals perhaps, where all about expressions from one human to another, (you like! Good. You therefore, perhaps buy/purchase) you do not like, well, I try something else, I loose! As I see it, this was an époque when one could converse with another, share ideas, get ideas. Today it is all about "commerce" in the worst meaning of this (noble) word . Corporations must make products which sale, they do not care anymore about what people like or care about, they force their ideas, their ideologies, forcefully, through advertisings and false pretense down our throats, just like the goose farmers in France force feed their geese. Now the Foie Gras is prohibited in California but not false advertising  and mass lying, nor false pretense. ( I love Foie Gras). It is exactly the same in the watch industry, yes, of course you have these great artists and perfectionists as Mrs Dufour, Voutilainen, Besser and others, many others, they are the visage which shall keep the spirit of human beeing seeking ever and ever for perfection, althought perfection is illusory. But, I diverge. I long the times when beauty was just that, beauty, and accepted for what it was, feelings of perhaps melancholy perhaps joy with no purpose but to admire what we, humans feel and can achieve.

This Saint's car is the only Volvo I like . 

I had the other Saint's car, the Volvo C 70, and loved it, absolutely. The makor issue with the C 70 was that it was a tad too big, and that the wheels didn't turn so well ( rayon de braquage, in french ). Smaller and this issue solved, I would have kept it much more time.

The engine was fantastic ( T 5 ), I had the full accessories package, and cruising with this car was like traveling in a Pullman.

Impressive.

Without speaking of the delicious line, which made me fall in love for this car.

As for the P 1800, maybe one day I will get it...

This car has long been one of my favourite, my father had 1 when I was about 6 and I have always loved it, his was grey with red interior. The Dino absolutely beautiful both the Ferrari and the Fiat, the Lambo Miura, the Alfa Montreal, the Fiat 124 coupe, the Peugeot 504 coupe, Alpine Renault A110..........Hmmmm, either I am melancholic getting older or they really had nicer design back then, more romantique?!

Look at the Fiat 500, the Mini Cooper, the Audi TT, Corvette, Posche 911... Strong  and sensual lines form the past, which still exist.

But like you, these lines, silhouettes from the Past bring, generate a strong and beautiful feeling.

to be revived is the Citroen DS,  I think that the design is timeless! You know the other day I was thinking about yesteryears when I was about 11, 12, 14, and either riding my bicycle or my Solex and I could recognise which car was going to overtake me just by the noise of the engine, I could tell, R8 from R16, Simca, VW coccinelle 1300 vs 1600 all sort just by the noise of their engine or exhausts, nowaday they amost all sound the same, pitty.

I'm in love with the Lamborghini Miura, the Lancia Stratos, Renault 5 Turbo (wide body - mid engine), Peugeot 205 Turbo 16, Ferrari Testarossa and who knows what else .... .

I agree, it has lots of class. It doesn't look like a Volvo indeed.

 

There are many machines I've loved, and still loving. Here are some of them:  Lancia HF Integrale (last model), SL300 Gullwing, BMW E30 body, VW Golf Mk1 and Mk2, almost any 911, the Miura P400 Bertone, BMW 3.0 CSI, a nice BMW 2002, Gallardo Superleggera, the new SLS, 86' SL 500 Convertible, Citroen DS, Pagani Zonda R, Corvette Stingray, BMW Z8 (LOVE it), Mazda RX7, Aston Martin Zagato,  and many more.

... this is one of your dream cars, and may be an affordable one.

I was very fond of watching "The Saint" TV series in the 1960´s, starring Roger Moore, and admiring the white Volvo 1800 he drove in almost each episode.

This car is truly a charming sport car!

I also had a few dream cars, specially in my youth. The Jaguar XK120, and the four door sedan 3,8 of the 1960' s being two favorites.
But I also had a dream car which I feel deserves a separate post, because that one I finally got: a 1966 Ford Mustang coupe.

I fell in love with this car in 1966, when I was a young lad, but I had to wait about 34 years to get one!
