Its true, 46mm...But there was no other way due to the construction and architecture of the barrels, the size of the springs etc...

Hi Spiros,

the Jacob&Co "Quentin" makes use of 7 barrels to achieve the same power reserve in a case of 56 x 47 x 21.5mm in size; that´s for sure not a small watch by any aspect, but the linear arrangement of barrels, lined up horizontally, may account for the sheer dimensions to some degree.
The new Panerai 10-days makes use of several barrels as well, which are "stacked" vertically pair-wise; that seems to be another approach.

Nonetheless, i´d agree in that using two barrels only require each to be likewise huge, which naturally limits the diameter of the movement to some degree.

at 46 mm too large for my taste no matter how nice the watch.

I think it would be better with the power reserve indicator on the back.

I'm also of the opinion that it's a little on the large side as well. I personally like large watches but I find that the RL, while smaller than some of my other watches, wears quite large. So I would think that this would feel huge.

I'm pretty sure Lange will have no problem selling them all. I just wonder how many of them will see regular wrist time....

of winding only once a month for such an uncomplicated watch, and the advantage using a special instrument?
Is the power reserve indicator as important as indicated by his bigness in comparison with the s-hand? Or could you work with a date instead of that: Winding every 1st of a month?? With a date indicator by JLC/ALS and quite more important than a rdm...
Do you need such a big watch to show the importance of the watch or of yourself, because you're wearing a very fine watch: An ALS?
I hope that ALS will go back soon in direction of fine watchmaking. The new solution is an interesting one for a problem of watchmakers, but I think that it's not of use by an end-customer. And it looks not interesting as a tourbillon, also without practical use in a wrist-watch.

I think the same can be said for most of the toubillions - there are only a few examples where they do not advertise the fact that watch has one by exposing it on the watch face.  Ditto the power reserve. 

The only thing that bugs me with the RL is that they felt the need to put LANGE in large type on the buckle.  It is, in my humble opinion, rather necessary and even a touch vulgar.

Actually, it's reported to take just 31 turns of the key to wind it completely. I've got watches with much shorter power reserves that can take 100 turns or more to wind fully, so I think the technical achievement behind the Lange 31 is remarkable.

I enjoy winding a watch every day or every few days but can't imagine how much winding would be necessary to fully power this watch.  I suspect it would be tiring and perhaps result in tendonitis.

You dont use the crown to wind the watch, but a special key that goes at the back of the movement...So no worries, if one spends so much money for this watch, they shouldnt have to worry about the neurologists' bills as well; and the good people at Lange thought of that...

Then you could sue Lange and get another watch!!

at the cost of being an oversized watch. I agree that this would be better suited in the Panerai fold of models. Its a pity that Lange has moved away from its historical roots of understated germanic designs and function.
