Tri-metal Seamaster
Sep 05, 2021,03:33 AM
Here’s a short review of this unusual piece that pique my interest 3 years ago. I had made many calls to enquire about it, but the price was never right.
And then the moment came - I was searching for a brand new Blancpain FF Bathyscaphe in titanium but it went out of production. A casual chat with the AD brought up Omega, and I told her I regret not getting the trimetal Seamaster.
“We actually still have it…let me see what the best price is for you.” The price was finally right. My heart lept.
More hallmarks
“Titanium” engraved on the lugs
More engravings on the bracelet
Notice the “Tantalum” engraving on the side of the bezel.
Something about the fonts used for the words Titanium and Tantalum, remind me of a Genta font. I’m not a graphics designer, but I’m sure I’ve seen this font somewhere before.
The grade 2 titanium is rather dark in colour. It becomes darker when the watch is wet. It is a titanium watch, with touches of Sedna Gold and Tantalum, with muted earthy tones. The tantalum looks purplish blue occasionally.
Other than wearing it on the bracelet, a black strap or grey strap will work. I don’t think other colours will be good matches. There is a grey leather strap and titanium buckle which can be ordered for this from Omega. I opted for 2 additional rubber straps (short and long). The short strap is comfy for daily use, but will not wrap around a thick wetsuit, and therefore a long strap should be used.
It’s quite light, significantly lighter than a 41mm blackbay. This confers much comfort for swimming. It is hardly noticeable when swimming freestyle. A 42mm piece, it wears smaller than it’s published size, perhaps due to the relatively moderate thickness. It is balanced on the bracelet and not top-heavy.
The lume is thick and generous. The minute hand glows in a green hue. The lume is very bright.
On the box, writes 25th Anniversary. It is a limited series of 2500 pieces. This piece did not sell well. It has been 3 years since release, and I have not noticed any other forum member with this (I searched the forum admittedly). I believe it is still readily available.
Thanks for reading. Have a great Sunday.
