1960's Seamaster Chronometer with Day and Date
I first learned of this particular model a few years ago after speaking to several watch collecting buddies. Then after reading an article dedicated to this model in the October 2002 issue of WatchTime magazine, I decided to try and find a nice example for myself. After going through several different examples in solid stainless steel cases and gold cap cases, this NOS solid 18k yellow gold version with attached Omega bracelet came into my possession.

The case on this Seamaster Chronometer is just fantastic. It's a great size at 36.5mm in diameter excluding the crown. The case is actually milled from a solid gold ingot and then the center piece is stamped. The lugs are an integral part of the case itself. The finish on the case is superb with contrasting diamond polished and satin finished surfaces. Shown below is a picture of the case back decorated with the familiar embossed seahorse emblem.

These are very scarce models and I've only seen a few solid gold versions over the years, especially those with the Calibre 751 automatic chronometer movement that has both day and date features. These calibre 751's were mostly installed in the Constellation line and they are excellent time keepers, my example keeps time within COSC specs even after 40 years. The bracelet is also solid 18k and is heavy yet comfortable.

I'd sure like to see some pictures of other examples out there, especially in gold. I know there is a very nice solid 18k white gold example from the recent Omegamania auction and a few gold versions with date only. Please show your pics if you've got them. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Phil

I thought it very clever of Antiquorum to pose the watch with the date showing being the date of the auction, Sunday, April 15. My example shows how (to my eyes) even the quality of photograph found in Antiquorum's catalogs never convey the real appearanc...
