my "mental" journey to a speedy hesalite
i wish porsche still made small air cooled 911 and i wish most watches were "made like the used to be" (the success of re-editions in cars and watches means i'm not the only one) but i don't have quite enough passion or risk tolerance to buy an actual vintage car or watch and also as james may says - that was made back then and this is now
i wanted a casual watch since the pandemic means running shoes and prana pants most of the time these days - and the other so called tool casual watches on the market are just too lux and flashy and dressy (i'll wear my reverso or calatrava when i go back to wearing "nice" clothes again)
for all intents and purposes the speedy hesalite existing is as if rolex still made a printed dial sub with a plastic crystal or porsche made air cooled 911 or land rover defenders weren't now glorified minivans (we just skipped the new defender and went with the mini van!) the speedy being the only icon that's made "like it used to be"

Omega did go this way in the early 2000s though - trying to bulk up the model, make it automatic etc. We as enthusiasts are just happy they understood how to keep the original formula as it is... just right
