Omega

Sunday funday question

On Instagram, @haulogerie asked which watch we would choose to be the only one for the rest of our life with a limited budget of 20k USD (actual retail prices only).

And here’s the one I would personally choose:

Omega De Ville Trésor 40mm, yellow gold, Grand Feu enamel dial, manual-winding caliber 8929 (3,5Hz & 72h pr). Ref. 435.53.40.21.09.001. Retail price: $18,700

This question made me realize that, below $20k, Vacheron only offers the regular steel 56 and, even though it’s a nice watch, it couldn’t work for me as my one and only. My choice of heart would be a rose gold Traditionnelle manual-winding 82172 but it now retails at $23,700. Another beloved pick would be A. Lange & Söhne’s rose gold Saxonia Thin, but it retails at $23,500. So, if I wanted to stay with these brands, I would necessarily have to go second hand or vintage.

Therefore, I can’t thank Omega enough for offering such a stunning precious metal timepiece below $20k. I know, of course, that the movement isn’t hand finished or Geneva seal like what you get on a VC or ALS, but I love the architecture of the bridges and I find this yellow gold enamel dial chronometer timepiece absolutely beautiful and stunning for its price. And I deeply regret that brands like VC, ALS, Patek, etc. have nothing but steel or most of the time nothing at all to propose below $20k.

Any thoughts? I’d love to read yours.
