chosen by you. I am nonetheless pretty sure one might find some precious metal alternatives with some brands below 20k.

I’ve been hesitating between the Omega and this Chopard LUC XPS which also retails at $18,700. But my personal preference here goes to Omega. ...  

I could have chosen the Rolex 1908, which looks really nice, but it retails at $22k, so above the budget limit set by @haulogerie.

You wouldn't be able to enjoy a dress watch throught the entirety of summer, both because of sweat ruining the strap and the inability to swim with it on.

And this is like all Omega precious metal watches. The steel variants are more fairly priced and for a budget of 20 k for a precious metal watch I would look preowned for the VC + A.Lange watches that you mentioned.

I would probably look too for a preowned VC or ALS rather than choose this Omega, but the game proposed by @haulogerie was limited to currently available watches. As for the overpricing, you might be right, but I'm not completely sure: gold case and index... 

. . . but not my first choice for a one-watch wardrobe to be worn every day. A bit too large and precious. CK 859 might fill the bill, though. And the 60th anniversary Rail does. Best, Art
