Separate rotors...
...The 1666 has separate rotors/stators for the Second hand and for the Hour/minute hands....
So sounds like something's up with the Hour/Minute side...could be mechanical (doubtful) or electronic...trying that synch hand thing might help.
Other than that, it's multimeter time: Minute hand coil 2.8-3.8kOhms. Once the battery's out, you can gain access to the measurement points:

I have not heard of failure of the analog display...
HI Patrick I have always liked the X-33 and over the years have handled about 15 of them... I have never seen the analog display stop... I have seen the LCD display fade out and need to be replaced. Good Hunting Bill Sohne

I have tried the hand synch after the battery change and it's at that point that I found out the minutes/hour hands were not working as they did not move when I pushed the buttons to set the analog hands. PAt
Update
Took out the battery and reinserted. The Hand sync sequence did not work. Sigh.... PAt
