Sadly, Michael Crichton passed away recently . . .

 

. . . so finding the answer directly will prove difficult.  My guess is the opposite, Graham, as the wording makes more sense coming from Crichton, who was not only the author of the novel but also the director and scriptwriter of the film.  Given his professional involvement, the watches would've been a legitimate tax deduction for him, so buying a few or even several would've cost him essentially nothing within the context of his annual income when he filed his taxes for that year.

Michael Crichton was, somehow, a Purist. A quick image search shows him wearing a Heuer Monaco and another wearing a Speedmaster. A guy with good watch taste and, of course, a very good writer. RIP. Cheers, Nilo

Do you think that an Omega Flightmaster watch that is engraved "Westworld 1973 MC" could be his watch or was it a watch given out to people who worked on the film?

I cant see a load of flightmasters being dished out by him as they were expensive even when new. Its quite possible its his. Only he can answer that question and its worth contacting his PA. G

To a fan of Michael Crichton perhaps, but not to anyone else as the inscription doesnt celebrate anything historic. But who's interested in value, we just love our watches for the sake of the watches. G

Nice condition flightmaster. The problem with the engraving is provenance in my opinion. It could have been engraved at anytime, more probably since MC passed away, but it also could have been done by him as a gift for crew members. We have to be cynical ...

I'm not saying he didnt give them as gifts, but to verify this particular watch we would need to see the inscription on the back of at least 1 fully verified piece as an inscription can be easily faked. Best G

. . . but it still strikes me as unlikely for anyone to have engraved this Flightmaster surreptitiously. I would be suspicious of, say, a Steve McQueen or Jacky Stewart engraving, but Crichton is too obscure, and the potential upside too scant, to inspire...
