Agreed, in a purely objective sense, Graham . . .
. . . but it still strikes me as unlikely for anyone to have engraved this Flightmaster surreptitiously. I would be suspicious of, say, a Steve McQueen or Jacky Stewart engraving, but Crichton is too obscure, and the potential upside too scant, to inspire a faked lineage.

Michael Crichton was, somehow, a Purist. A quick image search shows him wearing a Heuer Monaco and another wearing a Speedmaster. A guy with good watch taste and, of course, a very good writer. RIP. Cheers, Nilo
