Quick BaselWorld 2018 Live Pics: OMEGA Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon
One of the talking pieces of the fair, OMEGA presented a new version of its Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon series on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 8 mission in 1968:

The key point here is a new version of the famous Speedmaster movement Cal. 1861, called Cal. 1869, providing a faithful representation of the moon side as we see it from earth, and the forever dark distant side (remember, the moon revolves around the earth but does not turn), which can be seen through a skeletonised dial and a display back, respectively.

The decoration is achieved by a process called laser ablation and is design such that the dial side is (slightly) brighter than the back side.

The watch comes in a 44.25mm black zirconium oxide ceramic case and at a price of 9000 CHF.
Best,
Magnus

I like the textured surfaces. I also like very much that the manual wind movement permit a thinner case than the auto wind models. Overall, a good move by Onega, imo. M4
