His post delves into the allure of a watch chosen for its aesthetic appeal and innovative materials, rather than purely functional readability. This piece explores how collectors balance practicality with passion, especially when a watch's unique design captivates them despite perceived limitations.
Here in Switzerland we are entering a six weeks Lockdown so I decided to anticipate a gift to myself for my birthday (it is still weeks away but till the 28 February all shops will be closed here).
I have many watches so I thought what was on my wish list of the past. I always wanted a watch that is automatic, has the date (yes I need it!) and that is legible. Sometimes watch lovers forget that watches are not just meant to be pretty but should tell the time (and date) and should be easy to read.
I can't claim that in my collection other watches, including the Omegas, are not highly readable. But this is not always the case.
I am sure it happened to you too, you fall in love with a watch but then discover some issues..is it really easy to tell the time ?
Omega Speedmasters are not just iconic watches but served an important function, even in space. So with so many references ...whiich is the one with the best legibiity? Here it is: the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Black Black
Allright, this was fun š on a more serious note this is not the most legible watch but I loved it since a few years and I thought that one day I would get it. Very different for me: a new material (ceramic) which is very light and comfortable. The black black is very cool and reading the time is not as hard as you might think. Much depends on the light so I am happy to share some photos, fresh after the purchase:

Love the black date window!

Pretty Dark here
Better Lighting
So what do you think ? I haven't seen many in the forum (perhaps only 1 black black). Do you own another dark/grey side of the moon ? why did you pick that particular variation ?
Thanks in advance for your comments!
This looks very cool in a stealthy way. I particularly like the black date window. Happy Birthday š„ Enjoy !
You celebrate whenever possible.
I bought the BB as a dress watch..goes with a tux or black turtleneck...bought the Grey as an everyday business watch.
I recently got one too. Years ago I had a Sinn U Black and learned with that watch that legibility is better than one would imagine. Since I have a pretty diverse collection, I see no reason why all have to be completely rational. I love the look, the super light feel, and the unique sound of the rotor on ceramic bearings. Mine has been a stellar time keeper. Finally, I got mine used and the nylon strap included was completely spent. Iām amazed at how pristine the watch is given that it must hav
they are essentially scratch proof...bought mine new however strap aside they will always look mint. The 9300 / 9900 is an insane movement. This may be my next one...
I had one gripe about the movement in photos. The labeling of various parts on the movement seemed childish to me. In person, the writing is somehow less noticeable or annoying.
