Clueless_Collector's vivid photo essay on Mexico City transcends a typical travelogue, offering a unique perspective on how cinematic inspiration, specifically the James Bond film 'Spectre,' can shape a luxury travel experience. His detailed account of exploring historic sites like the Gran Hotel Ciudad de México, combined with practical insights on local cuisine and value, provides a valuable resource for collectors considering a culturally rich getaway. This piece highlights how personal interests, even those outside horology, can enrich the journey and discovery of new places.

And so is NTTD.

Last week our family had a vacation to Mexico City, our first time there to the real Mexico. We have been to the famous touristy cities like Cancun, Cabo etc but this trip is quite eye opening.

I researched where to stay and what to do, and with many recommendations from friends and also one of our own members Alex Sunrise.

There are 5 areas, Polanco, Condesa, Roma, Reforma and Centro Historico. Each has their characteristics and I selected Centro Historico because of the movie Spectre.

In the beginning scene when they celebrated the Day of the Death ☠️ , 007 walked along the streets and up the stairs of this historical hotel “Gran Hotel Cuidad de Mexico” and up the elevator.

The city is vibrant, rich with historic architecture, buildings and heritage.

We also made a trip to Teotihuacan and visited another city Taxco - Capital of Silver….it is beautiful and you can easily mistaken it like European small towns.

Food scene is great with a variety of local cuisine at super affordable price (relatively to US) up to upscale international cuisine that is comparable to anywhere in the world.

Overall this 1st trip was a great experience and vacation. Love it.

With the peso strengthening 15% in just a year against USD, it doesn’t seem matter as things here are still value for the money, again relative to USA.

Cheers and enjoy the virtual tour....warning, lots of photos, 72 of them!

The strong history and culture of Mexico really came out in your pictures.👌🏽 I’ll admit that I’m sometimes confused by the reports about safety, but perhaps that’s in certain cities/areas besides Mexico City. Your post is definitely motivating and I’m glad you had such a great time. Thanks for sharing the experience!

And you also have the chance to taste our famous Chiles en Nogada and the tasty tacos at Los Cocuyos! It's so bad the SIAR (Salón Internacional de Alta Relojería or Haute Horlogerie International Saloon) is until next month, but you probably have a justification to come back here? Thanks for sharing your great experience in Mexico! Viva México!!! René

We can say this is also scary but I see most people are just there to visit, particularly lots of Latin American tourists. Overall I feel quite safe during this trip. I will visit again and stay in another area next time. I’m happy to hear this post helps.
