Omega De Ville Central Tourbillon
Aug 14, 2022,09:06 AM
I had the idea to write this post after seeing that close to nobody is talking about how great this watch is. What you get is a timepiece that can rival the best independents in terms of both finishing and technical mastery.
The coolness factor of the floating hands mixed with the co axial central tourbillon never fails to amaze. What I would like to see is a smaller case, preferably in a white metal, but it seems impossible due to how large the movement is. Speaking of the movement...
It is a technical tour de force, solid gold both literally and figuratively, decorated to truly high horology standards, with expansive frosted plates, polished sinks for the jewels, black polished screws and a plethora of interior angles, present on both the exposed and the hidden parts of the caliber: just look at how many of them sit behind the dial, only for the watchmaker to truly appreciate. That is what hand finishing should be all about, but we are unfortunately seeing a departure from this maniacal attention to detail in favour of more streamlined and mass produced watches.
Omega isn't just Seamaster and Speedmaster. What do you guys think of this watch? Is it too expensive for an Omega or a great deal for such a magnificent combination of hand work and mechanical prowess?
