Omega (and Swatch Group)

 

is the only Luxury watch manufacturer to make a limited set of their watches available for legitimate & warrantied purchase in the US "PX system". That is to say, the on-base shopping for members of the military that is tax free. For many, this is their first exposure to luxury goods at all, and that 5 to 8% savings on the local sales tax can be significant. Omega is also one of the few manufacturers that has a program for customization for special forces, the "Unit Watch Program" (hopefully I got that correct) that allows some limited modifications. Typically this is no-date Seamasters with custom logos on the back.
I have been treated wonderfully in the boutiques. An Omega was my first "real" watch. As a veteran, I still may pick up a Speedmaster as I can take advantage of the aforementioned program, I agree with the sentiments about it being a bit of a must-have. I can't quite decide on the hesalite vs. newer sapphire, I must admit.
I'll always have a spot in my heart for Omega. Thanks for this wonderful photo!

It’s easy to get soured by all the bad experiences all of us have probably had throughout our collecting lifetime. But it’s good to know that there are certain brands that don’t play games. You want one of their watches? No problem they can get it for you...

That I had an awful experience with both from a product standpoint, and the boutique, which only drove me back to Omega full force. What I’ve realized with many high and luxury goods is that at the end of the day you’re buying problems. Not so with Omega....
